FUTURES

planning

Futures Planning is a tool that can be used to guide students who are transitioning to middle school, high school, or life after high school. It enables the student to build wide-ranging relationships in school and in the community, by gathering a circle of family and friends to support and help them achieve their goals. Futures Planning reinforces self-determination by allowing the student to express their unique gifts and capabilities as they begin planning for a life focused on activities that interest them.

There are several goals* connected to Futures Planning:
  • To help students gain control over their own lives.
  • To increase engagement in school and the community.
  • Through a team effort, develop a plan to turn dreams into reality.
Students who want to create a plan for their future will become successful as their family and friends rally around to support them. The goal of Futures Planning is to focus on the strengths and abilities of the student in order to accomplish their goals. Students may create portfolios as a way to discover the best direction to take to reach their goals. Once their portfolios are complete, students work with supportive family and friends to create an action plan in order to help them accomplish their goals.
